Partnering with BT to provide free public WiFi access and digital education across the UK | Barclays

In partnership with BT, the Barclays Accessibility and Inclusion team have introduced free public WiFi access in local communities and delivered digital inclusion sessions to enhance digital empowerment. 18% of the adult population in the UK have never been online, which increases to 60% for people over 65 years old. In response to this, and in partnership with BT, the Barclays Accessibility and Inclusion team have developed an initiative to bring free public access WiFi to libraries and community locations.
This has provided a platform for colleagues to deliver digital inclusion sessions in the communities demonstrating Barclays’ commitment to digital innovation. In the first 6 months since the launch more than 10,000 unique users registered to use the service and over 250 digital inclusion sessions have been hosted by Digital Eagles. Community centres have also been able to benefit from funding offered by digital inclusion charities to further develop the initiatives.
