In this video I cover some of the key tips and recommendations that will really help you to get your students collaborating and sharing content online. You can create a Google Doc and then use the ‘share link’ to allow other students. It is important though that you understand how that link works. There are basically 3 ways that someone can share content. There are basically 3 levels of access to a document and it is really important to understand the 3 levels and how they work.
You can’t teach online with Google Docs. It is not the ideal tool for organizing your students but it is a really good tool to setting up collaborative and sharing based activities. Students for example can comment on a document or they can actually edit and add to the document. It is really important that if you are going to use Google Docs to collaborate and edit, that you organize the document so that students know where and what to write.
You are also about to change the level of access. So for example you can have your students working together on a document and then you can ‘change’ the access so that no more contributions can be made. This is really useful as it gives you control over the document. For example you might restrict the use of the document for a certain period of time and say that it must be completed by a certain day. After that date, you can change the access so that students are not able to make any more contributions. If you learn to use Google Docs well, you will see that it is a great tool and really useful when teaching online.
