Personally, I recommend starting with a short-tail keyword that represents a topic that you want to create content for. In my example, I used the short-tail keyword of ‘PPC Advertising’ and I found 42 unique keyword suggestions.

1. Google Autocomplete
Use the suggestions when you are searching using Google.com to build your keyword list. Click in the Google search bar before your keyword to get even more keyword ideas.
2. YouTube Autocomplete
In addition to the suggestions on Google.com, you can also use the suggestions on YouTube.com, which is owned by Google.
3. Google Search Tabs (News, Images, etc.)
Do a Google search for your short-tail keyword. Then, click on the News, Images, Videos, and Shopping tabs for more ideas.
4. Google Keyword Planner
I generally start all of my keyword research with the Google Keyword Planner. Search your short-tail keyword and then use filters to make sure the search queries contain long-tail variations of your keyword.
5. Google Trends
Google Trends is great for finding trending topics about the subjects you cover. It is not useful for every website, but it’s vital if you cover news.
6. Google Search Console
Once you start creating content on your website and ranking higher, you can use Google Search Console to find the keywords you rank for and your Average Position.
