The edge of the network has become a really interesting area, says Colin Bannon, Chief Architect and CTO, UK, EMEA and Global Commerce, BT. Colin says BT is aiming to provide an intelligent hybrid (MPLS and Internet) network for customers – one access line and two services so that customers will be able to switch between them for different applications, such as automatic fail-over to the Internet should a critical MPLS connection to a cloud service, say, fail. The key will be the intellgent router at the edge.
